Apple's launch of the iPhone 4S last fall saw the smartphone coming to more carriers in the US than ever before. Not only was the phone available on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, but we saw regional carrier C Spire offer the handset, as well. Today, we learn of plans to being the phone to a pair of other smaller carriers, starting April 20.
The next two networks to get their hands on the iPhone will be Alaska Communications and nTelos, operating in and around Virginia. Both carriers will be offering the iPhone 4S in its 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB configurations, as well as an 8GB iPhone 4 option for subscribers looking to save a little money. Pricing for the phones coming from both carriers is notable for the discounts it offers over what the national carriers charge for the iPhone; all options will run you $50 less than you'd pay on AT&T or its peers.
Of course, you'll have to factor in the cost of service, and with the cheapest option on both networks costing $80 a month, it could quickly add up; compare that to the cheapest AT&T plan at $60. Still, options are options, and we're just happy to see how far we've come from the initial days of iPhone carrier exclusivity.
