LG Optimus 3D Hands-On (Video)

The LG Optimus 3D made its debut at Mobile World Congress and we got some hands-on time with the device. As a recap, it's the first 3D Android smartphone, allowing you to record 3D videos and images, then play them back on the glasses-free 3D WVGA 4.3" display. It's packing a dual core TI OMAP 4 CPU with PowerVR SGX540 graphics, plus HDMI and DLNA connectivity.

LG Optimus 3D has dual-core 1GHz OMAP 4 CPU, video codecs up the wazoo

LG's been mighty stingy with details about its 3D smartphone, but some very promising ones have just trickled out of Barcelona ahead of Mobile World Congress -- in keeping with the company's theme of doubling everything, the LG Optimus 3D will ship with a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4 chip. Considering that we've seen that particular SOC drive three screens, we're guessing that a single 4.3-inch stereo display (yes, 4.3-inch is confirmed) will be old hat, and we've certainly seen the included PowerVR SGX540 graphics throw around some weight in many a Galaxy S. Raw specs aside, though, the Optimus 3D has a feature that we've been waiting on in Android for a while: LG says it will have "four times more video decoders than competing designs." Admittedly, that probably means it will still only recognize about eight video formats in total, but as long as we can play the vast majority of our anime music video library without re-encoding the lot, we'll promise to only grumble occasionally. The UI on this phone looks real nice... i hope to see this device on upcoming MWC in Barchelona at next week..

LG Optimus 3D in teaser video

Yesterday LG announced the official Optimus 3D debut would be at Mobile World Congress and today we have a teaser video of the aforementioned smartphone. LG’s bringing it big-time with the first dual-core processor packing smartphone, Optimus 2X and now the first 3D glasses free LCD panel smartphone the Optimus 3D. Like the Optimus 2X the Optimus 3D also sports the 1GHZ NVIDIA Tegra dual-core processor along with a dual-lens camera for 3D recording and HDMI and DNLA support for the sharing of your latest 3D content.
There seems to be a lot of speculation whether the smartphone in the video is the actual Optimus 3D or a mock up so if you’re clairvoyant or have the inside track and could clear this up it would allow a lot of folks rest a bit easier. Hit the jump for a look at the vid.

LG Optimus 3D is officially confirmed, to come at MWC

Finally, it's officially confirmed by LG – the LG Optimus 3D, the first phone to bring the “full 3D experience,” will be unveiled and demonstrated at MWC. But we could hear about it even earlier as Sprint is set to make an “industry first” announcement, which many expect to be a 3D smartphone.




The full 3D experience includes 3D recording, viewing and sharing. The Optimus 3D comes with a dual-lens camera for the recording, while its LCD screen will skip on the glasses, but will still deliver the extra dimension effect, which is kinda cool.




And if so many threes and dees haven't made you feel dizzy yet, the LG Optimus 3D will also come with HDMA and DLNA support for seamless integration of the 3D wonder among compatible devices. Most importantly, LG underlines that it will deliver a “complete platform” to address the lack of 3D content. A complete platform implies more than just a couple of 3D apps and modifications, so we are eagerly waiting to see the live demo of the Optimus 3D at MWC.




A picture of the handset leaked just yesterday, but - except for the look - it doesn't confirm any other features. Nevertheless, we could guess a screen size of around 4 inches and possibly a dual-core chipset to support the software, but take this with a grain of salt. No word on any other specs and it seems that 3D is the buzz word, which covers pretty much everything you need to know about the handset according to LG. Could this handset match Sprint's much anticipated "industry first" announcement? Sound off in the comments!

LG Optimus 3D Makes First Appearance

We saw the LG Optimus 3D being tipped for a Mobile World Congress launch with a flyer mentioning something that would take us "into the new dimension".

Phandroid looks to have an exclusive picture of the alleged LG Optimus 3D which packs a large 4.3-inch screen -- pretty much like the prototype on display at CES -- dual-core processor (most probably the Tegra2 present on the Optimus 2X) as well as multi-channel RAM -- according to the tipster who took the picture -- with a front facing camera added. While this is just a rumor for the moment, we'll find out more at the LG event on February 14 in Barcelona.

LG Optimus 3D Tipped for MWC Launch

LG appears poised to launch a 3D smartphone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. As if its press conference invitation's copy wasn't blatant enough -- "Into the New Dimension: Experience the new world that LG is opening" -- Dutch etailer and Carphone Warehouse subsidiary Phonehouse already briefly had a teaser page up for the "LG Optimus 3D" which has since been pulled. (Unfortunately, the photo it was using to illustrate the page was just an Optimus One.)

Three-dimensional displays are poised to become more than a novelty in the next year, with Sharp, Nintendo, and now LG all bringing glasses-free devices to market. LG actually showed off a prototype 4.3-inch display at CES earlier this month -- video embedded below thanks to Engadget -- although it's not clear if this is the same screen we'll see on the so-called Optimus 3D.




Incidentally, LG trademarked "Optimus 3D" in Korea back in July of last year.
