Samsung's Galaxy Tab(s) 2 delayed by, you guessed it, Ice Cream Sandwich

Since the calendar clearly says April, we can take it as read that Samsung missed the promised March release window for both the seven and ten-inch versions of the Galaxy Tab 2. The company conceded that it was because both it and Google needed more time to tailor the software to the new hardware. Now both slates will arrive with a fully tweaked and revved version of Android 4.0 towards the end of this month.

Samsung Galaxy S III With 4.65-Inch Screen Already Being Tested?

Since we told you about the recent rumors related to the next iPhone it is just normal we make up to all you Android and Samsung fans out there with some Galaxy S III reports. They're coming straight from South Korea.

There's hear-say about a possible 4.65-inch display that will allegedly grace the front of the Galaxy S II successor. It will reportedly pack a resolution of 720 x 1280 and it will be a Super AMOLED Plus HD screen. With those specifications it will have a 315.83 ppi resolution putting it right there in the "Retina" class. The report also claims that the display will be the first "display from the company's OLED arm to reach HD resolution" without being Pentile.

The second report claims to have official wording from Samsung according to which the manufacturer is already testing the Galaxy S III with carriers in its homeland. They also want to reduce the time needed for tests (which is around two months) so we might speculate that June could be a good month for an event.

Video Calling, Multi-Mode Apps Coming in Android 2.4?

It's being reported that an anonymous source at "a major manufacturer" has let some details about the next Android OS for smartphones leak.

In what's being called Android 2.4 (the successor to Gingerbread), Google may be adding video calling support via Google Talk, similar to what we've seen in Honeycomb. Additionally, this version is said to include "dual-mode" app support so apps written for Honeycomb-powered tablets should run just fine on smartphones running Android 2.4.

We previously heard that Android 2.4, like 2.3 may be called Gingerbread, similar to Android 2.0 and 2.1 both being called Eclair. However, including Honeycomb compatibility and features sounds a lot like what we've heard about Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Ice Cream Sandwich will Combine Honecomb and Gingerbread

We've told you before that according to various sources inside Google Android Honeycomb won't be coming smartphones -- it's tablet only. We've also heard that "parts of Honeycomb" will come to smartphones.

We finally have some definitive information, and it comes straight from the top. Google's CEO came out and told us that Android version "I" (which we think is Ice Cream Sandwich) will combine Gingerbread and Honeycomb. Whether or not Ice Cream Sandwich will be just for smartphones or if it will be for tablets as well wasn't addressed.

That certainly makes sense. Doing so allowed Google to get a head start on an OS for tablet devices, but still they can still go forward with a unified operating system for "devices that typically don't have a keyboard".

Also disclosed was that the release cycle will go from the one year that we'd heard previously down to 6 months like it is now.
