iPhone 4 Reception Issue Due to Bad Production

With Apple denying that there are reception issues and theories that secrecy may be the cause of such wide scale failure, Apple had released an open later on the matter stating "To start with, gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones" and that the dramatic drop in reception bars on the iPhone 4 is due to "the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong." However, another theory has recently surfaced that Apple failed to coat the antenna. According to Electronista, "Apple support representatives were told there was an issue with a coating meant to prevent accidentally bridging the antenna but which wasn't present on all units." If this is true, later iPhone units would not suffer from dropped calls and the inability to connect to data networks if the phone is gripped in the lower left corner.
